The new jobs are part of a broader strategy to expand its mining activities and improve its quality of life.

“Our focus is on continuing to grow our operations and provide our clients with a competitive, safe and secure workforce,” Newcroll CEO Tony Broughton said.

“We are looking to increase our productivity and improve our quality of living, particularly for our clients in Western and Northern Australia.”

Mr Broughtons company has already expanded its operations to the Wills creek site, where it is currently constructing the main tunnel for its new mining operation.

“The Wills site has the potential to be a world class facility for the mining industry, but there is a great opportunity for us to grow and expand our operations,” Mr BroughTON said.

The mining giant has also applied to build an underground tunnel from Wills in the north to Wampucas site in the south-west.

Mr Boughton said the project could create more than 5,000 jobs in the WA mining industry.

“It is our objective to grow the mining sector in Western WA and to provide employment opportunities for our workforce, as well as improve the quality of our environment,” he said.

He said the company was also considering the expansion of a nearby mine and a proposed coal mine.

Mr Smith, the chief executive, said the new positions would be “a significant boost” to the company’s existing workforce.

“This is a huge boost for the company and our community,” he told Al Jazeera.

“To be able to provide our workers with the opportunity to make a difference and be part of our business is absolutely essential.”

Newcrost has also launched a recruitment website, jobcentre.com.au, to offer information on the new jobs.

Newcrust is a subsidiary of Imperial Metals Group, which owns a vast number of Australian mining properties, including two mines.

Mr James said the expansion would help the company “continue to meet its goals of achieving our investment target of $7.2 billion in new capital projects over the next three years”.

“It will give us greater capacity to invest in the West and deliver better environmental outcomes,” he added.

“Newcretons workforce will be a key driver of this, with the majority of our workforce being from Western Australia.”
