Donald Trump’s new administration has said it would consider a bilateral climate change accord with India if India were willing to participate in it.

But in an interview with the British newspaper The Economist published on Wednesday, Trump said he was open to discussing the issue with India, though he declined to give a timeline.

India is currently the world’s second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases after the US.

Trump is a big supporter of India, and has promised to help India improve its economy and its environment.

The two countries have already signed a memorandum of understanding for the expansion of the US$2 billion China-India Energy Corridor project.
