LONDON — Iron ore mining is booming in London, but some of the rigs are now using a cheap, high-efficiency power source, a new report has found.
The report, titled Iron ore Mining Rig Power Source: Iron ore, mining, and gas companies, by the UK’s National Grid, said the latest rig to be used in London is powered by an 18-cylinder diesel engine, the same type that is used in power stations and in a truck.
The report says the diesel is relatively low-polluting compared to a conventional diesel engine and it is also the cheapest and fastest power source.
Iron Ore Mining Rig, or IEMR, is the name given to the diesel engine that powers London’s largest iron ore mine, in South Kensington.
It’s the latest in a series of diesel powered rigs, designed to reduce carbon emissions from the mines.
“The diesel engine provides an efficient and cost-effective alternative to an existing coal-fired power station.
It is currently used in the mine for a variety of purposes, including cooling, heating, and cooling of equipment, but could be used to power other parts of the mine,” the report said.
According to the report, the diesel can power the rig for up to 10 hours at a time and run for 30 hours at the same power.
This means the rig is able to operate at night and at high temperatures, which would not be possible with coal-burning plants.
London’s biggest mining company, Anglo American, is a member of the National Grid’s Diesel Power Project.
The company also owns the Luton-based Anglo-Metall Group.
In a statement, the National Energy Supply Board said the power source is designed to be “low-pollute and reliable,” which is important in a city where power prices are so high.
Nestled among the green spaces and public spaces, the London Mining Estate, the site of the largest iron mine in the world, is one of the UKs biggest urban attractions.
The site includes a network of walking paths and parks that make it a perfect setting for the rigs.
A spokeswoman for London Mining said the company is proud of its role in the project.
